its a lapradei.
free fish are always nice.
great pick up :)

wow thanks so i guess it is a lap. are these guys rare at all or are they common like senegals???

thanks

Nothings as common as a senegal.Yours was wild caught in Africa and should max out in the area of 18-24inches when fully grown. While not as common as a senegal they are not usually that hard to find nice pick up-Anne

thanks guys. yea he had been at my LFS for a few days and at first i thought it was a Senegal..but than i paid more attention to the head shape and the big lips and relised it was someting else.

his tail is not in great condition but i hope my good water quality fixes that up a bit.

my sister thinks he is ugly but she does not understand how awesome this fish is.

so any other info about these guys????? food?? social behaviour???? ect...

thanks again

Very nice lapradei...I have one myself. I think these get confused quite often in the pet trade. I picked mine out of a shipment that came into my lfs as senegals...got him for $10.

As far as food goes, they will always take live. I finally got mine to take frozen krill, frozen silversides, haddock, and scallops. I've noticed that if I constantly feed him in the same place he goes there now and waits for his food to fall. Makes it a lot easier when doing gravel vacs.

in the sticky section the introduction and primer should answer most questions -Anne

Very nice find. my mom thinks my albino senegal is ugly, but idc he is one of my favorite fishes. and he absolutely kills any meat i put into the tank, weather it be shrimp, talpia (sp?) or earthworms.

i really want to get a larger tank to get another bichir! its an addiction i suppose.
