I just moved these guys into a 75 today from a 40 breeder and got a 2nd opinion that these might not be what I bought them as... picked these up as motaguense back in February but they haven't really colored up a lot. No intense reds on the gills or anything on the body. Color is a bit washed out because they just got moved.... but you get the picture. Loiselli? Hybrid maybe? Any input would be appreciated =]

Loisellei

That would explain why I've been able to keep them in a 40 gallon breeder for as long as I did with no casualties lol. But on a side note.... I don't recommend anyone buy online from thatpetplace.com in the same order I ordered these 5 "motaguense" I ordered 5 "istlanum" that turned out to be grammodes. While I'm not exactly upset with either set of fish.... would have been nice to get what I paid for lol

It happens a lot with parachromis unfortunately. The same thing happened to me when I ordered motas from the wet spot.

I'm not surprised. Its happened to me and I see mislabeled tanks. They used to be awesome, but things have gone downhill.
Anyway here is a pic of a male loisellei I bought from there.

Thank you. Beautiful loisellei. Any idea on an easy way to sex these guys at a young age? Also, what size do they start to color up? Some have some very nice reds and blues on the fins. I have 5 fish and they range between 2.5-4". Getting along well together with some mollies at tank mates. And I purchased from them because several years ago I bought a group of haitiensis, grammodes, Robertsoni, and bartoni. All fish came in as labeled and healthy. No issues with how ththe we fish came in.... just completely not what I ordered. When I first notified them about the grammodes they were selling they said they were too close in appearance at that age to tell... needless to say they never changed the fish they were selling to the correct species so I vowed to never do business with them again. Didn't even ask for any form of compensation just for the fish to be labeled correct

Thanks, from what I remember you can sex them around 3". They'll color up once they settle in and grow. They grow pretty fast.
