there is a freshwater stingray with a disc diameter of about 7" at the LFS (local fish store)
and its in a 30-40g. BOWFRONT with alot of sharp rocks and stuff.. i feel inclined to "save" it but I cannot afford a large tank (180g.) nor do i have the space so it would end up in a 75g. tank... so im not going to do that because I dont think there even is a stingray that could fit in a 75g. once full grown
(is there? I would LOVE a stingray)... so i wont be saving him...
anyway he is not like any of the motoro's
he has the coloration of a saltwater stingray and he has a white belly and a tanish back/head (the top part of a stingray) it has a pointed nose.. anyone have any guesses? I am going to e-mail the LFS to try and get it in a better tank.... but i dont think they will listen.. thanks in advance

any links with a bunch of different freshwater stingrays would help... im going to go look at wetwebmedia.com
srry guys i am familiar with reef tanks.. this freshwater thing is new to me.. so information would be good.. especially a website that i could send in my e-mail giving some basic info of the ray..
If needed i will try and go to the store and get some pics..

well your right... thats the one.. so how big is 60 cm in inches.. like 30" ???? im guessing?? or somewhere around 18" does anyone know..
what size tank should i tell the LFS it needs...

Not to sure, are they selling it or keeping it as a display? If it is a display fish they need a huge tank. If they are just selling it just suggest to put it in the biggest tank possible, if they won't do that, at least suggest to them to take out the sharp rocks.

its a display tank.. but what i think happened was there wholesaler just shipped it to them... they have it in a tank with pebbles and sharp rock... i am going to ask them to find it a new home or set it up a new tank.....
i bet they would sell it if you asked for it and proved you had the right set-up....
they might be custom ordering him a tank.. who knows.. i'll e-mail them

At least you have the right intrest in mind for the fish. Hope they are going to get a bigger tank or they listen to your advice.

RE: florida

Living in Florida, and hoping to one day own a ray or two, it is not completely illegal to own a ray. There are two different lists of "illegal" fish, one that is prohibited (you can not own under any circumstance) and restricted (those you can own as long as you get a permit). However, I am not aware of what, exactly, you need to do in order to obtain a permit. I've been told it is a simple matter of telling the agency what you intend to do with the fish and what sort of habitat it will be in (along with someone showing up to your residence and inspecting). However, I can not verify the accuracy of that.
