wow, there are a lot of Aulonocara stuartgranti to go through!:nilly:
but it does seem to have that body/fin shape. And it does ring of a big box chain pet store to have such a fish. thanks ya' all for helping.

I wish I would have seen him first...i live in S.E. michigan as well and have been looking for fish of that ilk.

He has lost the blue, but would expect that from a hormone feed fish. He is getting beefier and should reach sub-adult size soon and start coloring back up.

i cant get over that the LFS had it labeled as a baby jd.. good lord. :irked:

That fish looks this beautiful now i can only wonder what it will look like after you have it awhile.. what a find.. does not matter whether you ever breed him he is showy and is a great addition to your beautiful africans..

It looks like a copadichromis mbenji blue to me.. if it gets a small black spots when it is an adult then it would be definitly. Here is a pic of a mature one.

I am looking forward to straightjacket's call.. no matter what a really beautiful fish.

Oh I just realized you don't have an id for sure yet.

My guess is some sort of Aulonocara stuartgranti, definitely not a copadichromis mbenji. (Fins are wrong, plus photos of them don't come out with his color).

So here are some stuargranti, remember there are other photos to look at. Honestly I think he is too young to get a good fix on what he for sure is.

And a very slim possibility of an Aulonocara korneliae, but I seriously doubt it:
