Hello!

I got two Heros specimens as by-catch with Heros notatus from Rio Jufari and I suspect they are a pair of the same species. I see some resemblance to Heros spurius, but it definitely can't be them due to localisation of catch. I wonder if anyone had this species, or seen similar fish in literature.

And just to compare- notatus female from Rio Jufari

They are notatus.

Why do you think so? They are showing different black markings than rest of my fish from Jufari that are H. notatus for sure. Black bars of those specimens are much more visible. In case of female when they are reduced to spots they are much more elongated than in notatus female and they are going
from the abdominal side almost to the middle of the body (2). Male is not showing abdominal spots at all while notatus males do, he just shows visible bars, bars disappearing in the middle of the body (3) or no bars at all. Additionally they dont present another notatus feature- black spot at operculum (1).
