If I understand that correct I'd say at least its own size if not bigger, basically whatever it can catch.

is being a bit too conservative here.Shadow, as long as the prey item doesn't exceed the size of your head, you should be fairly safe eating it. Probably best to have a chair or other item nearby, and practice the self-administered Heimlich maneuver by throwing yourself over it before attempting larger items, or do so only when you have another surfer dude or two nearby to assist you if you start to choke and pass out.
Live items should be subdued and killed before attempting to swallow.

Half of the questions you ask would embarrass me too much to go anywhere other than nice, anonymous Google...
These do not need to eat prey whole which means they can eat anything if they can kill it, and they can easily kill fish their own size or somewhat larger. Where I live I think they eat mostly mosquito fish(sort of like a guppy). I would remove it from my pond asap if I had small fish in it.
