He's only grown about two maybe three inches in 8 monthes and he looks tiny in that tank I didn't know he needed more room I have a 150 gl set up but he will get eaten instantly in that tank. So im confused is he a goliath? And how big will he get?

You do not own a Goliath... 1Mill% positive.
Exactly which species, I will let Fugupuff confirm but I Vote for Vittatus.

Yes you will need to upgrade. This may not be the best advise but im looking at it from the Owners point of View since Tanks dont grow on trees Lol...

37 Gallons not enough... but looking at how his snout is in very good condition, I guess you can get away with it (thus far). These guys are Lightning Quick and its amazing how fast they go from 0-60 and still slam on the Brakes back to Zero with one big Push from their Tail (The bigger they get the more you will see). Just know that they have been known to dart into the tank and die. Last one I know of was last year around 14-15" (ouch). I would stay away from any kind of floating foods as this is how the last guy checked out... rammed into the top of the tank... "Bye Bye:cry:". So far I have my 16"+ VATF in a 300gl (8'X30"deepX2'tall) and I'll say its pushing for a upgrade. Once he starts hitting the sides its def time to up the tank size. They need Length and Width with Heigth a last priority. This is all my opinion and someone else may tell you different (except the fact that it is NOT GOLIATH:D)

Here is a Link towards my last post about "Other Charicins"... Way more info than this section of the Forum (Its like looking for Ice Cream in the Fridge... close but not quite Lol)

Wow thank you so much the lfs we got him from had him in a small tank and it was a huge upgrade at first and he hasn't grown too fast and he deff is fast but like you said he stops and doesn't hit anything but I will deff upgrade soon I have a 75 gal sitting in the basement I can use, that will give me a little more time before I hafta go huge

It's no way a AGTF there is no mistaking one of them they look nothing like any of the other ATF. I doubt its Forksoli because there mouths are short and there shaped more like a foot ball with a big body and a small head and the eyes are not as big at the Vittatus. Vittatus are more shaped like a torpedo so I agree 98.6% it's a a Vittatus. Get that bad boy in a way bigger tank or it's going to mess its face up.

75 would def work out better! Don't quote me on this but I remember reading they get about 3feet in the wild. So from a Baby to Adult in home aquaria they will def max out smaller. The biggest I have seen on MFK was from Woody a few years back. I believe his was 20-something inches and I have yet to see another one close to it.
Followed by a Youtube Vid from Asia somewhere that had a Cement tank around 5K gallons with lots of cichla and a VATF of some kind around the big-Teens/low 20's.

Other than that that have posted in the states I believe its mine at 16"+ that is currently alive and well (atleast from people that share their PRIZE fish). If anyone knows of a big VATF, do post... I can care less whos is bigger, I just want to see more big VATF'S and exchange experiences etc... :D

Well I purposely have tried to slow his growth down. I want to enjoy him as long as possible:D... also, I have been saying 16" for Lord knows how long Lol and peeps that have been over say he is.... MINIMUM 16" but looks bigger. So, since I have can't get a exact length I'll stick to 16-16+";). Im far from trying to have him bigger so by all means grow yours bigger... just make sure to post update flicks :headbang2

I hope my guy stays this size for the next year again:ROFL:
