eh post this over at planetcatfish.com and the guys there would give you a definte ID

I would say the gravel to start with isn't a great choice for those guys as they'll be more comfortable in a sand bed

and they dont get big i would say depends on the sp. it could be 5-6'' at the most common measurements anybody else that knows what sp can hit me on the head for giving wrong info

I would just say go post it on planetcatfish.com :)

I've had a few different species of these guys. They did fantastically till one night a fuse blew and wiped out electricity in a whole section of my house. I'll have to try to remember which species it is. They all did fantastically on their varied diet of defrosted blood worms, krill, mysis, beaf heart, sinking carnivore wafers, and algae wafers. My one whip tail got to over 12 inches and the lyre tail was a long as he was. I kept them at a temp of about 80 and a pH of 6.8. They lived on a gravel bed like yours along with tons of driftwood and plants.

Farwella Catfish

It is in the whiptail family. Maybe a Sturisoma sp. or Rhinoloricaria sp. They generally get 8-12 inches and will feed on Veggie pellets as well as sift in the sand a little for worms. Keep them with live plants and driftwood with a decent current and you will get many years of enjoyment from them.
