Why do people think firemouths can't be that colorful or as colorful as other thorichthys? The truth is they are. There are many different varriations as well, and some more colorful then others. It just depends where they were originally collected in Mexico or Belize.
Some firemouths have been sellectively breed to produce Such intense colors.

Just run a search on Affinis and you will see they all look exactly like his. they are all closely related so they all look similar but I refuse to believe thats just a nice firemouth. because shape wise they all look the same, its the colour that tells the different thorichthys species apart, and thats what is different to a regular firemouth.

cichlid fish funny that u say depending on where they are picked up its funny kuz affinis is a MEXICAN FIREMOUTH. not so red more orange and alot more blue. so i kinda have to agree with stratoauarius because you kind of proved him/her right with the affinis once you said depending on collection points and you mentioned mexico. i also noticed his tail is longer then most firemouths i have seen like more elongated. i also thought it was different because all the firemouths where in a school but this guy would go into the school of firemouths and every single one would start chasing him around and tearing his fins. untill he would go into the corner

even if you have perfect example of Affinis people will still debate what you have on here, unless somebody with pure "Affinis" can chime in and post pics to compare people will just go ahead and assume its a Firemouth just because its easier this way. I can guarantee if you started this thread saying, look at my new Thorichthys affinis, people wouldlve accepted it just fine and probably argued against anyone saying it was a firemouth.

edit - fixed terrible English

I got to agree with Strato on this one, it looks like a T. affinis to me as well. What really makes me think it's NOT a T. Meeki is the lack of any orange on it's dorsal, as it has blue instead. The large amount of blue along the body and caudal fin makes me think T. affinis as well.

A good looking fish regardless...
