Not long,they get up to 2ft long,you're gonna need a bigger tank than a 4ft!!

4ft will do for now but definitely plan on upgrading in the future. from what i've read/researched it will be between 2-3 years before they reach the 2ft mark but they can get to a foot long rather quickly, like in a year or less. three foot long fish in 4ft (by ?) might be a bit cramped. good luck with your fish man. they've become my current favorite channa.
