jariina, thyrorus and vazzoleri can all look very similar.

All three of them have that large ocelated blotches at place of vertical bars.

In adult.... only vazzoleris keep those vertical bars???

So..... vazzoleri or maybe thyrorus?? those 3 ocellated blotches near the dorsal fin??

Judging by how messed up the "pinima complex" is, I would suggest that this fish was overlooked by Kullander in his recent 2006 paper, and this species remains undescribed.

Final answer: thyrorus.

I did see a pinima looks very similar to this yesterday. Will have to go look for it.

haha......... I saw this yesterday.. 2nd picture
