ID please - taiwan reef??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So “ ID please” question on this forum is not valid anymore?

In my opinion, generally speaking it never was valid. See thread below for further details. It may seem like a harsh reality to yourself and others who purchase these types of fish, but it is what it is.

I started that thread at a time when it seemed like a wave of people that were clearly new to African cichlids were asking for ID's on their new fish, recently purchased from a "mixed African" tank. Just like the fish that you posted here, most, if not all, were hybrids.

Well, good thread..
I understand what consequences wrong guessing can bring, but like you said its a bit harsh on newcomers who actually tries to learn.

Yep, but a good example of why it pays off to do research prior to the purchase. That's where forums like this can be the most helpful to those that are relatively new to the hobby. On any given day, and on any given subject, there's probably a few hundred years of combined experience here on MFK. I wish I had this resource when I was starting out.

Hey,can you please have a look on my new fish. It looks to me a bit like taiwan reef ( sometime visible black vertical stripes) but Im not sure. Colors are bit weird, there is visible blue shine on the body but nothing yellow. He is 1.5 maybe 2in. looks like it could be a placidochromis electra (deep water hap). once it grows a bit more and starts showing a bit more color you can know for sure

I think you right.
In a petshop they have one more like mine, but alone in tank so he is colored a bit more then mine. It looks like it is a deep water hap.
