Thanks again guys,

ballinouttacntrol - Well I have yet to contact them, but did check with my local trading standards whom have advised me that ornamental fish are (imho sadly) considered no different than say a handbag or other goods. And as such you legally have 28 days to return the item (in this case the fish) and claim a refund. This is due to the item/s being clearly mislabelled.

Funny though cos trading standards are now going to investigate the lfs as (in this case) these fish have been mislabelled quite badly and they are concerned it maybe happening with other species and there is some potential for someone to think they're buying one species but this lfs are actually selling them something potentially dangerous etc.

So for that lfs .. oops lol

Right and just for total clarity before approaching the lfs I decided to remove 1 of these pacu / piranha from the tank and get a pic of the teeth.

TBH could not see much with naked eye, but the 1 visible tooth is on bottom of mouth as seen in the attached image. It is a poor pic and we are going to try again with the separated smaller specimen (that I spoke of last night).

You should see the tooth I'm referring to and it certainly looks triangular and pointed, much like that of a piranha? Just want to be sure is all, this was a 3" specimen from the 4ft tank.

Thanks

I couldn't see the picture of the tooth but if it is indeed piranha tooth and you tried to touch it, the tooth can cut you even if the fish is just one inch in size.
Pacu's teeth aren't completely flat as well if that's what you were trying to check out.

jp80911 - So we saying these still pacu?

here's a better pic of the one mentioned last night (the one that has been separated due to bullying also is a poor image of it's teeth, but has a deff row of protruding sharp teeth, whether this means he is piranha I have no idea. All I know atm is this is driving me nuts now.

Many thanks again guys, atm I think I have to assume they are Pacu as they seem to have much more in keeping with them. This little one that's on his own does look more like a genuine piranha than the others anyway.

Thanks :)
