ID please, true trimac?

I would be willing to bet, since you did not buy it from a reputable source, that it is not a pure Trimac, but a hybrid of some sort

very good possiblity it is not completely pure. the guy i deal with at my LFS is pretty good with getting nice stock in. either way I believe it was not WC and actually captive bred from one of his suppliers.

BTW what can a trimac breed with? red devil? green texas? red texas?

When it becomes an adult, what can I sell him for? I am afraid he will get too agressive. But if he doesn't I will surely keep him.

No he is not a true trimac because those severum aren't cowering in the corner of the tank yet. :P

(really though, it's impossible to tell the difference between a very low grade FH and a pure trimac. Only way to know for sure is to know the source.)

No one will be able to tell if the fish is pure or not by sight.

Call it whatever you want, but unless it came from a select few reputable sources, don't market the offspring as trimacs.

:iagree: exactly! No one can look at a fish and say absolutely sure that it IS a trimac, because many low grade fh's look so similar that you can't tell by the naked eye. We can, however, tell you for sure if a fish is NOT a pure trimac.

The pics you posted though are a bit blurry for the fish in question (though the severum was very nicely focused...and I agree that in the best interest of the severum it should be rehoused soon).

The basic general rule is if you didn't get from a reputable source/breeder/importer then there's no way to know for sure short of DNA testing.

That make no sense at all. So we cannot tell for sure if a fish is pure trimac, but we can tell for sure if a fish is a isn't pure trimac???? Please explain how you can know for sure that a fish that looks like a trimac is not a trimac.

what I meant was that some flowerhorns are OBVIOUS flowerhorns:

These fish, we can absolutely say are NOT 100% pure trimac. They are obviously flowerhorns.

However, you can't take a fish such as the one in the original post and determine by appearance 100% if the fish is in fact a pure trimac or if it is a low grade flowerhorn. Low grade flowerhorns look very similar and in some cases just like a real trimac whereas the higher grade flowerhorns quite obviously are not pure trimac. ;)
