I disagree, it looks like a Red Empress, but its not really nice.

If I judge at the picture this is a mature speciman, and it should be totally red and blue.

I have a Red Empress breeding group with a male of ~7-8 cm's which has more coulour than this speciman

Mod Alert, We have a flamer in the cichlid section. :banhim:

In case you were not aware Breeder Males usually show brighter colors than your typical standard male in a tank. That's part of the breeding courtship.

Also I believe he just recently got the fish and the picture may have been taken right after coming out of the bag. These may be stressed colors and in that case he looks real good for being stressed.

Lastly to say his fish is not that nice because it dosen't look like yours is well :screwy:

No thats not what I said. I only said that a nice Protomelas Red Empres should have more coulour. And who is flaming around here?

Yes, male Red Empress. I happen to think he looks nice.

how big is he, plus so ya know anyone here, a red empress color is a good test of water quality. The fish shows better color in better water, now if he is getting picked on too, it will lose some color as well...

to me, it also looks like a male empress.. i have a female and love her to death--shes a great fish.. btw your specimen looks good!
