The aqualog does talk of otorongos cross breeding with Falkneris. Maybe yours is the offspring of the two. Very beautiful!

I'd have to say it's a falkneri. Doesn't look anything like the other otorongo pics posted; it's got such a wide yellow edge to it's disc that the otorongo/castexi lack (they show it too but not as thick or uniform).

Whatever it is, it's a very nice ray, and one I'd love to have to myself!

That ray is incredible. I have never seen a Falkneri in real life but in my mind it looks like that..

castexi.... and a stunning one at that....

mmm.. depends alot on where it was collected.

I am starting to think Falkneri is just a Castexi ray with either major variation or hybridization involved. The holotype for falkneri and the classification behind it is VERY jumbled at this point, and Rosa even synoymized falkneri with P. Menchacai at one point.. it's all screwed up.

I would say Falkneri too based on pattern and color.. but I think it has a bit more to do with it than that (eye/spiracle structure). Heres some Argentina Falkneri from Oliver Lucanus and Richard Ross..

I agree. Look at how wide the yellow edge is on this beautiful ray. A friend of mine had a Falkneri a few years ago and it looked exactly like this one. What ever it is, it's an awesome looking ray. I think you stold this bad boy . Congrats.:headbang2

very nice michael

In faulkneri, the spots tend to be "bean" shaped, not round... you should send this pic in for the Stingray Symposium experts to identify...
