at my lfs they were calling it an 'Umbri' I figure it was just another name for 'Umbie'. but I had never seen them this colorful so i bought it. I got back home and realized it looks a little different from an Umbie. do you know what it is?
I'd appreciate any help. thanks

I am not very good at IDing cichlids but I think it is a turquoise cichlid (Caquetaia umbrifera), it gets to about 19" max. here are a couple pics of adults by IGFA and Jens Gottwald.

I know my pictures aren't the best.

the body has a similar shape to that fish but the head looks more like a Jack Dempsy on my fish. and there is also a lot of maroon on the fins

Agreed. Looks like a motaguense.

Im goin to say its some kinda of mota to. I have a breeding pair of Red Tiger Motas.

Here is my big male

And here is the female

LOL, told you I wasn't good with cichlids, how big is yours?
Other than the general shape the reason I thought it might be the turquoise is that the lfs is calling it an umbri like from umbrifero.

definitely close but it's head is closer to a JD than a motaguensis. also, the fins are much longer on my cichlid than a moto. another thing, i have never seen this much maroon on the face and fins of a motaguensis.

Something that the picture doesn’t really show is it that there is turquoise on the body
