Any pics of those you have mentioned?

This are not my pics btw. Just saw them in the internet.

Polypterus senegalus "Turkana" Notice te head shape is very different than the senegalus that you commonly seen in many LFS. I saw 5 of these bad boys at Japan before at 14"-16" long.

those turkana senegal's look sweet! thanks for posting the pics king-el!

to the original poster...i agree with the retro ID...that's the first thing that came to mind when i saw the pic (just got to this thread as i'm usually mucking around in the gar forum :P).

good luck with your collection...i agree with you, i would go for species more than the variants...all that platinum stuff is interesting/different, but IMO i much more appreciate the different species over the variants--

Giant sens do exist!!! Awesome! Is this the same thing as what is referred to as P.senegalus 'meridionalis' in the primer?

Now I want one of these monster sens. Looks like a cross between a sen and a lap.

In the wild they do grow a lot bigger but I think it's rare to catch one. Also they tend to grow smaller in captivity especially the mass captive breed in Asia. So far the only record of sene that grows bigger of more than 13" is from Turkana basin. Other basin probably stay smaller. No one also knows if the one from Turkana is P.senegalus 'meridionalis' as the report of sighting of P.senegalus 'meridionalis' is not from Turkana. Plus most people considered P.senegalus 'meridionalis' as just a synonyms. Will just let the biologist to ID them properly.

Theres not enough morphilogical difference they are simply a variant minor variant
of Polypterus senegalus from the norhtwest province ofTurkana in Kenya bordering on the congo and in lake Turkana formerly known as lake Rudolf also ofund in the area is P.bichir bichir-Anne
