Is this a Bay Snook? It look like it but I've never seen one with this kind of coloration.

It was posted in the "East Coast vs. West Coast" thread, i saw it as i was looking through the thread a few days ago and i saved the pics.

I'm still trying to find the specific post that it was on, but i think i remember the post saying "not a snook". I'll find it to be sure.

They ARE baysnooks. No matter what anyone says these are true petenia splendida. It's just that these have wild colouration.

Eric's on the money about it being a Petenia Splendida and a very beautiful variant.
I have keep a few in the past and have a 16inch Snook that must be pushing 10yrs now.
Great fish but I call them poor mans Cichla.

They are bay snooks, but just not red bay snooks. This is the more common (in nature) form, usually in the hobby called 'green snooks.' The red bay snook is a natural occuring phase btw. I prefer the greens though.

Cichluvr was selling some fry from wild type parents a while back on Aquabid. They're the only ones I've seen in the states. The wild type coloration seems to be much more prevalent in Canada and Australia sadly.
