What is this fish? It was at the LFS in an unlabeled tank. They sold it to me for $2. Thanks in advance for any help.

great deal for $2

Yeah, they said they did not know what it was because they had no tag for it on the tank, so the manager said just give it to me for 2 bucks. I figured it was a pacu, because I know RBP are not legal here but I thought there might be a slight chance it got there by mistake somehow. Oh well I will keep him and see how he turns out. Will a 125 be good for him/her for life? Is it possible to breed these in an aquarium?

Pacu's grow well quick i had 1 and in a month it grew from 2" to 4.5" I know they can grow up to around 20" to 30" and there growth rate is stupidly quick. A 125 gal for now would be ok but you would have to upgrade when it starts getting bigger if you have 1 then you could probably get away with a tank anywhere between 200 to 300 gal, but I'm not an expert this is just from some research i have done in the past

125g is 18" wide, and depends on big that pacu get, it may last in there for a while then you'll have to either get a wider tank or sell the pacu.

Ouch.... These impulse buys never seem to work out. After keeping fish for 5 years you would think I would not make a noob mistake like this. :wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:. Well anyone near asheville, nc want a free pacu?

i hear the big ones are good eatin'... :naughty:
