How big and how old is it?

It looks like an Aequidens metae to me but I'm far from an aequidens expert. It could also be a diadema.

I was thinking aquidens myself.Don't know the age but it is about 4''.

Aequidens for sure , but it's a bit of a toss up as to which one for me. I'm going to venture a guess and say A. diadema. The problem with a lot of acaras is that they don't really show good color untill they're close to full size from my experience. If it colors up more yellow then it's A. metae , but my moneys on A. diadema. Cool acara whichever one it is.

I agree it is an Aequidens but i think it is Aequidens portalegrensis.Common name Port Acara.

You might be right , seeing it through less sleepy eyes it does look more like a port. Lack of face marks as compaired to the A. diadema and more subtle coloration.

Didn't the ports get left in the cichlasoma genus , or did they get moved ?

im pretty sure thats a port/brown acara.

This is definitely a Black Acara. Once the trailing fins grow out, it is a beautiful cichlid.
