OK , I just got done doing a little comparison of some different acaras (namely the one in the pic to the ones we think it is) and it's not A. diadema, A. metae, or a black acara. It is a port acara Aequidens portalegrensis. The face does look a little long for a port , but he's still a young fish and will probably "grow into it".

You might be right , seeing it through less sleepy eyes it does look more like a port. Lack of face marks as compaired to the A. diadema and more subtle coloration.

Didn't the ports get left in the cichlasoma genus , or did they get moved ?

I'm pretty sure they got renamed from the cichlasoma to Aequidens portalegrensis.I'm also pretty sure the ID of this fish is the Port Acara. What ever you want to call it,it's a fine looking fish:D.

Yeah they were moved to Aequidens , I was think of bolivensis .

The Aequidens genus recently went through another shake up, and I don't have a full listing of affected species . Just FYI the GT's (all three) the Blue acara and one or two others recieved a new genus , Andinoacara. As if keeping the scientific names of all these fish wasn't tricky enough already:nilly:.
