Auranti have a mean streak in them for sure, and can be agressive towards tank mates, Asiatica however are in a league of there own, if your lucky you might get a pair to live together, but that's it, mine will attack to kill anything i put in that tank even fish twice there size, mine became agressive towards me at about 4" have to be VERY careful when working in the tank , and they are VERY agressive feeders, so will likly stop any tank mates from getting food as well. I've heard of people who tried the mix and the asiatica kill off auranti even if equal size

and i have to ask what's with the pic of a starving dog in your display ?
Hi DC
I wish mine was like that, i thought it may be because he is young, but now after what you say, it can't be.
He's about 9" long and a bit shy, he is very like my stewarti in his personality, but a better feeder, like you've said before he'l eat anything.
It could be that he is over weight, as i feed him when ever he'l eat.
I may just try cutting his food down a bit, i would like him just once to go for me, just to see it. i know it sounds mad but i havent experienced it.
Ihave 3 and none are overtly agressive toward hands or other fish, but will not tolerate each other or another snakehead.
They grew oddly as well, one is9" , another is 5" and the third is 3" all exactly the same and all asiatica.

Auranti. well dont you find that views seem to differ on them as some say they can mix with other fish but just not there own kind and others say you can't mix them with anything.
I have to say i'm no expert on channa, but i bred irish staffy's and pit bulls for almost 20 years and found that not 1 was the same as another.
Wether or not this has any bearing on fish i dont know, but it certainly looks that way.
I have read some of your stuff and i can see your clued up and i do agree that the majority should not take the chance of loseing there pet
and those that do on their head be it.
KEEP in touch mate. simon

S orry pal i missed the last comment, the dog is in top shape, we used to race them for fun in a club. my son is an ABA Boxer you should see him, you'd probably think him starved as well. but thats not the topic on this site. :)

Top shape ? oh maybe that's normal for the breed ?? But even in that small pic you can clearly see rib's and even his spine protruding, I am all for lean dog's most people keep there dogs WAY over weight, however haven’t met a vet that would consider that a healthy weight, But your right this is a fish site, and maybe it's just the pic

As for fish all being individuals, that's absolutely right, some are more aggressive then others of the same species and LOTS of environmental factors can also effect that.

Not that i need to explain my dogs obviouse fit condition to you, and no it isnt normal for the breed to be as fit as this dog, no more than it is normal for a human to get themselves in a super fit state to achieve the goals in life they desire, the weight loss is just part and parcel of the process and like i said DC i've been doing this for a very long time and by the way, vets are not in the buisiness of getting dogs or anything else in the fit condition this dog is in and his achievements speak for themselves.
But then again i dont know you, i could be talking to another top class conditioner and in that case, please give me an eg. of your conditioning program or mabey your just someone who sees something different and just thinks its wrong even if they dont know the first thing about it.
Either way this is a fish forum, so lets keep it to fish hey.

you show me a top athlete (human or otherwise) who's got a sunken rib cage and spine sticking out and I’ll justify what that dog looks like, I'm not saying your dog isn’t built for what you want it to do, I'm sure it is look at the legs on that thing! But I can’t say I agree with a trade off between health and performance, Your right you don’t know who your talk to, neither do I , I’ve met allot of self proclaimed "professionals" on various forums,

But hey, who cares what a vet says he's fast right?

Sorry I know this is a fish forum, some things just rub me the wrong way, good luck, dont forget to feed your fish and your dog.

Nice one, fair enough mate.

Hi,
Could anybody ID this snakehead for me please, i was told it was Aurantimaculata which grows to around 16" however, it doesn't seem to have grown much at all since i bought it, which was in around september. We bought 3 Asiatica about a month before it and 2 of them are far bigger than him. Could he be a Dwarf species; which would mean i have been ripped off,

Pictures of him are posted below.

Thanks.

Definately aurantimaculata and you're right he does seem a bit small but as long as he's eating for you, i would'nt worry too much.

Not that its any of my buisiness, but i did read through the posts and i hope you do'nt mind me saying, thats a great looking specimin of a bull terrier in your avatar and looks seriously fit to me and i also kept apbt for years.

Thanks i knew it was Auranti. anyway but, just wanted to be sure. Also, thanks for the comment on the dog, its nice to speak to someone who's had these types of dogs themselves.
