HITH is a very complex disease with many possible causes and possibly active pathogens. It can be contagious.

HITH isn't contagious.

It is highly contagious. It is a parasite that will spread to fish in a tank in very short order. The only good thing is that most "healthy" fish in good water conditions can fight it off. Google hexamita intestinalis for more info.
