ID please

LFS had someone turn in a bunch of these guys. They had them labeled as Nicaraguan Cichlids .

The guy in front of me picked out the obvious big male. I grabbed three myself. $5.00 each at 2"+.

These pics are stressed fish, just introduced to my tank. Orange bellies, red trimmed dorsal and red trailers on tail. Kind of rounded forked tail.

What do you think?

They definitely look like some kind of rams, but I don't know which species.

Yup, bolivian rams (Microgeophagus altispinosus) ... though that bottom pic makes that particular one seem like an angel (short bodied) one.

A big bull male can easily reach 3-3.5", extremely rarely 4" (max length reported for them).

The bigger male the other guy got was easily 3.5". Long trailers too.

Bolivians...I have seen a few just slightly over 4". One at my LFS lives in the planted tank, old dude is blind.

I personally don't like their appearence when they get larger.
