and to add they're fun when they're in species only tank- they're little bit aggressive. Especially the bigger guys. I had a 6'' at one time. Theyre easy to catch where my family's at in michigan so I catch them all of the time.


AND COVER YOUR TANK AT ALL TIMES! THEY JUMP worse than any other fish that I have had owned. esp the bigger specimens.

Wow thanks guys......now theres another fish out there I want to own! Lol, in all seriousness Mudminnows sound really cool to have in a species tank, but could you keep them with topminnows or mosquitofish?

They'll outgrow mosquitofish and eat them. I have about a dozen or so of them from 1.5-3 inches and the big females can take 1" rosy reds no problem.

Wow....I just looked up a video online that showed that they can be cannibalistic also.

My big females are already starting to watch the smaller mudminnows, hopefully they grow quickly enough to avoid predation as I don't want to tear apart my planted tank to catch them

Cool video! I love blackfish, apparently they can live in room temp water because in summertime, the shallow pools they occur in get heated to reasonable temps by the sun. Mudminnows behave in more/less the same manner. The mouths on mudminnows are actually not much smaller than on blackfish; they're deceptively cavernous.
