This is a common Pterygoplicthys gibbiceps.

thanks for the help can i use raw cucumbers or do i need to boil them

I agree with them ^^ it's a Gibby, and mine also has the kind of "tarnished" look on the side. I was wondering if anyone knew if thats common or how to get it to go away?

Raw is fine to use, no need to boil. also i would suggests to forget the cucumber and use zuchinni instead. every pleco i have ever owned prefer zuch over cucumber. just make sure you wash any vegtable you put in the tank very well.

I've seen it on them before...mostly when they are older. As long as he is eating and not getting into fights, I won't worry about it.

Thanks Warborg, and I wasn't worrying, mine looks healthy and eats fine. And as to agree with Legomypleco about zuchinni, most definitely. My gibby goes crazy over zuchinni. Any tips on making it sink? I use a magnet and a magnetized clip for the fridge to hold it in the tank.
