I rescued him from my LFS yesterday, i think its a Jag but could be wrong he is beat up pretty bad, one of the employees at the LFS said that he was brought in with a large flowerhorn and 3 large red devils so im guessing that they're the ones who beat him up. i would also like some advice on getting this fish back to good health, right now one of my oscars are treating him pretty bad

Keep the fish separated and add a teaspoon per gallon of table salt (no yellow prussiate added; doesn't matter if it's iodized or not). Further harassment will quickly kill it.

yeah thats def a dovii, but still same treatment that lupin suggested will work to help him heal, just keep a super close eye out on his aggression, if he was raised as the lowest in his tank hierarchy then you may have luck having him with tankmates but these guys can be really vicious if they decide they want the tank to themselves, especially since oscars aren't even on their level of aggression. how big is your tank? you have a male dovii there and he will get larger than any jag male so will need a nice HUGE tank to be comfortable GOOD LUCK he looks great for being so mistreated he should color up nicely in no time with clean water and good food

I currently have him in a 120G with 3 oscars, as of right now he wont eat anything

give him some time, with good care and proper treatment he will be eating in no time

yeah he is still settling in, larger fish take a little longer to settle into new environments, but he will soon enough realize he is now the king of his tank and isnt getting beat up no more and will start to beat on your Os and eat like a champ. do you have a larger tank? IMO a 120 is even too small for 3 Os as Os are super messy and create the waste of like 4 foot long fish by themselves. and a dovii will grow to need at least over 200g, unless he is stunted which is likely if those other fish were what he was being kept with i doubt his previous owner was that diligent in their care :(

i also have a 125, but i really want to see if i can get him back in good health, i have a friend that has larger tanks so i will pass the dovii on to him once i get him healthy,i just felt sorry for him when i seen him in the LFS i just had to take him home, plus the LFS acted if they didnt even want him, i got him free, they acted as if they didnt even want him in the store in his current condition

yeah thats cool though, good thing you got him and that he is in knowledgeable hands now. alot better than in the LFS where he probably would have most likely caught some kind of fungus and died. but yeah i do that when i see fish in need at the petstore as well. like i recently rescued 2 little jag babies that were mixed in with the "assorted african cichlids" they were only 1.5in and were being completely torn up by the africans so i took them in the heal them up and they were completely flawless within a week and its been 2months since i rescued them and they have almost tripled in size, unfortunately the dominant male made the other one jump out last night so now im down to one but he is doing really well considering the condition i found him in
