I just got this polypterus from a friend of mine who is downsizing their tank, they didn't have too much info on it. He thinks it might be a palmas palmas? Any idea what it is?

Palmas Palmas or Palmas Buetti.
A better picture would clarify.
My money would be on Palmas Palmas.
Not so hard to believe anymore.
Palmas Palmas are readily available most places her in Asia, and I would guess starting to come into the Euro, US markets now too.
Current price here in Japan at the moment is ¥4500 for 6". (about $45us)

yup palmas palmas. very nice 
US has had the palmas palmas for a long time (but behind Japan of course), and it became more readily available here sooner than SE Asia actually.
