It do looks like a fallfish to me as they can get quite larger.

So is it safe to say its a chub or a fall fish. Or are they the same thing ?

calling a fallfish a chub is like calling a bluegill, or pumpkinseed ect... a "sunny." The fish is a fallfish , chub is a general name for a myriad of fish species that look similar and some are in the same family...but just because they are in the same family does not mean that they are the same thing.

"Fallfish" is Semotilus corporalis, which is a species of chub. Chub is a general name for a myriad of fish species, so if it falls into that general family or group, calling it a chub is not a misnomer, it's not as specific as "fallfish" or "white chub", but it's not incorrect. A creek chub and a fallfish are both species of chub, just different species.

It's correct, but I think the point is, it's about as helpful as telling someone that posts a topminnow that they have a killifish. That's a vague term that can encompass more than one family, and even when referring to only one family of fish is pretty vague.

Unless you can at least narrow it down to a genus it's not really worth posting. Who wants to browse a whole family or multiple families of fish to find an I.D.? It's hard enough when one genus can contain a large variety of species that practically look the same. A post with a proper I.D. can end up overlooked in a thread filled with people saying "it's a sunfish" "it's a minnow" "it's a chub", etc..
