hello this is my first post and my first time coming on this site. 2 days ago i bought what i believe are 2 red belly piranhas. i couldnt figure out how to create a new thread so i used this one cause it is related to the same thing. anyhow the fish store i bought them from has been around for 40 + years and i believe it is a reputable place. the 2 fish i purchased both look kinda the same but slightly different. im thinking they might be 2 different kinds of piranhas or 1 male and female but im a noob so im not really sure. they are roughly the same size about 6" and was wondering if i posted some pics if someone could identify them for me. would like to get this done because if they are not what he says they were im gonna take them back to the store. im stuck at work and will post up some good upclose jaw and body pics in about 4 hours from now. thanks

I understand.
Imma getting a new tank sooner and been doing some research

So u brought home fish not knowing if it was a red belly Piranha or pacu? I guess that's understandable, u could always grow em to a foot and give em to pacu mom!

Or u could buy piranhas of similiar size and shoal them till the pacu outgrows em by a few inches then Ull have months of food for the p's!

I'm amazed nobody addressed his 2 piranha by themselves idea! Ivan, if you're not going to have a solo, then 3+. If you have just 2, it's only a matter of time before you'll end up with just one due to their obnoxious pecking order. Having 3 or 4 gives the underlings more protection, since the head honcho has to lay him/herself thinner to keep everyone in line. AND EHXON: That fish looks like an RBP (RED BELLY PIRANHA) to me, just like you don't look identical to your next door neighbor, not all piranhas (even of the same species) look the same.

Deformed, but still the same species. They both have nice color on them though, and the one's lumpy melon just makes it easier to tell them apart. Nothing drastic, nothing major.
