Hello All, I have a 55 gallon tall tank with a whisper 60 and a Aqua 70 filter. I want to make it a cichlid tank. My LFS said these cichlids are from central america.
I just found out the stripped ones are Auratus.
They are about 1 inch long.

2x blue ones (ID please)
1x yellow one (ID Please)
2x Auratus

Also, how many can my tank hold?
Should I get more blue and or yellow one?

Thank you all for your support.

yellow labs and kenyi...

all Africans. Not particularly good stock, and when larger, auratus and kenyi will have a hunger game type affair in your tank.

What would be a better stock? Should I get rid of both or just one? what would you recommend?
My goal is to have a colorful cichlid tank and for all the fish to be happy.

Thank you!

If you like Africans in a fifty five you can try 5 yellow labs, 5 rusty, and 5 cobalt blue. Maybe add a group of small catfish and a male peacock(the african cichlid not the bass)...you will probably need to over filter a little but the color and activity of the tank will be great...and none of those will be psychos like kenyi or the auratus.

What is the difference between the yellow lab and the electric yellow? I have 2 and one has the black top fin with light black vertical strips and the other has no black at all.
Also, how many catfish do you recommend?

Thank you for your help ecoli73!!

The yellow lab and electric yellow are one in the same. For catfish, if you are doing small syno's I would say like 3-5 would be perfect :)

Thanks for the info. Do you know the reason why one of my yellow labs do not have the black?
If I get the 3-5 syno's, it the total amount of fish I can get would be 18-20?
I just want to make sure my tank is not over crowded.

Thank you!

Well for African u can overstock them to lower aggression, I have over stock my 75gal with over 60cichlids. The aggression is very mild, and I have built up rocks to pretty much to the top for many hiding places. I too have all 3 of your fish posted and they never fight. Cichlids usually fight over female. So keep that in mine

Chinx you should be fine with 20 fish lol.. I honestly don't know exactly why some have black and some don't I think it has to do with different species, that have been so bred together that when you breed you can have some recessive babies with black and some not with black. I wish you luck. The total amount in a 55 depending on what you get could be 18-25. Just look at the total size they can get to and if they get big just sell them then get new smaller ones :)
