It's hard to tell from the picture but if the sides have a purple tint to them then it is probably a ruby red peacock. Did you happen to get it from petco by any chance?

Yeah, I'm converting this tank to African. It was a trade in at a lfs here. They didn't know what it was but for only 10 dollars I thought it was a good deal, it's about 4 inches long. As far as coloring goes he is mostly blue but when he turns you can make out some yellow coloring along his body as well as a few stripes/bars on his side. He is just hiding all the time so far so I can barely get a pic

Well never mind, I decided to do a peacock tank right. I don't want unknown peacocks hybridizing so I took it back. I went to the wet spot and got a group of 9 aulunocara stuartgranti mdoka. I'm gonna raise em up and breed them. There are either one or two males, little hard to tell now, they are 1.5 inches long.

Can we get a closer pic? It looks like it's either a peacock of some kind (Alunoacara sp.) or a Sciaenochromis ahli (aka electric blue ahli). Either way $10 is a steal. It's worth more like $25-$30
