I was thinking of the same thing too. I've been looking for 5 stars for a long time. When I saw them I got a little excited but then I thought something was up. Anyway of sexing them?

No, it's African. It has the black "ear" marking at the top of the gill that is characteristic of a lot of West African cichlids (no idea what the formal name for this marking is).

Look like Fossochromis rostratus juvies to me (foot-long, purple Lake Malawi Hap).
