I agree.
I had a breeding pair some years ago, the female would fit 50-60 young in her mouth when the fry were almost 2".
When startled they can dive into the sand substrate and disappear.
At 2" the fry would act as cleaner fish for my Etroplus suratensis. The chromides would seem to stand on their tails inviting the Fosso to clean their flanks.
Fascinating fish, that need a very large tank at maturity ( I could only keep 2 in a 150 gal, when the male hit 14"), and are very strong, long distance jumpers. I had to keep bricks on the glass tops to keep the Fossos from dislodging them, and shooting across the room.
Look like Fossochromis rostratus juvies to me (foot-long, purple Lake Malawi Hap).

I've always wanted a really big tank with a big group of Fossos and another of moorii... A really big tank!

The 150 was too small for mine, think a 240 or 300 would be fabulous.
I started with 8 Fossos, at about 8" the alpha killed 2 sub dominant males, then started on non receptive females. He would harass them so heavy, they would attempt to jump out
and 2 went thru the glass tops, until I added bricks.
Ended up with the breeding pair and lots of fry, could barely give them away.
The alpha males blue/purple color was amazing.
