I would second Polystigma as well. Livingstoni have very clear-cut crisp markings. Polystigma is more faded/blurry, as seen in your photo.
There is a third one that looks like the other two, Linni, but I think that one is more elongated than this.

I think "crisp" is a good word to describe the difference, and a good way to solve this i.d. question.

N. fuscotaeniatus has markings very similar to polystigma. Poly's have a distinctive "peppering" over the body.
N. linni is more like N. polystigma in pattern having the same peppering goin on only N. linni has an unmistakeable downturned mouth that sets it apart from the rest of the Nimbo's. ;)

That particular fish is throwing me off a bit. It has the patterning and color of a polystima, but that head looks all livingstoni. Livingstoni have more of a rounded head and face, like your fish, where as the polystigma has a more slanted pointier face.

My guess is that it may be a hybrid of a polystima and a livingstoni.

well now its dead... donno what happend. he ate right out the bag and the following morning, but didnt eat tonight.. and now hes dead.. donno what happend no visible infections or anything. i had a similar one die a few days ago.. suddenly had some white stuff hangin on him. i quarantined him and put meds in but he ended up dead the next day. what did i do wrong, what can i do to prevent further deaths. all the other fish in the tank are fine. other fish include a small version of this one, ornate and two cloan loaches.

Very strange. I would think there was some aggression involved by the way it sounds.
I had a Nimbo suffer similar symptoms. The fish stopped eating and two days later it looked almost like it's skin was peeling off, but there was nothing wrong with the fish's scales, no visible wounds, just white "skin" looking stuff hanging off the fish. The fish was medicated using metro and prazi but refused to eat for 2 weeks after and I had my boyfriend put it out. None of the other fish it was with suffered the same.

To each their own.
I personally think oscars are ugly ass fish.
I ain't gonna run around and post that absolutely useless opinion to someone who could care less though. :grinno:

You just did post it, and I could care less. LOL I like the Africans, but I like the personality of the Oscars. Spitting food out of the gills is a very endearing trait.
