Over the rainbow
Didn't get much traffic on my other post so I thought to post here. I got this guy in a trade as a golden mahseer. I was under the impression they were endangered and unlikely that it is one. I was hoping for a blue masheer, but wanted to see if anyone could give me an ID and what he eats. He didn't take massivore. He's about 10-12 inches. Thanks!

If by golden mahseer you mean the biggest mahseer Tor putittora or the essentially indistinguishable Tor tor, then this fish doesn't look like it to me.

But IDK that much about their identification. I hope others may help you. Some of the MFKers I believe should know mahseer are: fugupuff fugupuff headbanger_jib headbanger_jib kendragon kendragon vincentwugwg vincentwugwg B bigguapote Oddball Oddball

EDIT: Having looked at your link, I must say I didn't want to belittle shookONES shookONES and his ID which to me looks spot on based on Jibran's photo (that is of course if Jibran's ID is correct). Sorry, Mike. Now I know to turn with mahseer questions to you too :)

There are half a dozen mahseer species that are called blue or have blue in their common name. The most common and famous is the stratcheyi, which, I agree, this fish doesn't look like. Albeit rather close. That speaks toward the genus being ID correctly - Neolissochilus: Greek, neos = new + Greek, lissos = smooth + Greek, cheilos = lip

The mouth shape and the colors kinda make me lean towards tor tambroides from thailand.
