I would say the convict and nicaraguense. Very interesting mix. You didn't see any pair activity?

No, and while there was a pair of cons the Nica is a male.

A little time will tell if he is a convict x nicar, or a really colorful CONVICT.
And the nicar being a male makes perfect sense. Convicts are a "nest fish" while nicaraguense are more like Africans (Loosely saying) the male nicar is not usually "there" at the nest, but patrolling the general territory while the female does her thing. So, it makes sense that you didn't see any nesting activity - although I'm surprised you didn't see any nesting on the female's part.

The cons did there share of spawning in tank. The only other rituals observed were between the nica and jd.

Give us some background on this little baby... I mean, if the convicts were spawning, what's the story on this guy?

JD hybrids typically have spangling (from personal experience) and there is no JD in that fish.
He is either a full convict, or somehow the nicar got a little of his sperm into a convict clutch while the convicts were spawning.
