take a look at the picture here http://nis.gsmfc.org/nis_factsheet.php?toc_id=179 hardly any red and body color is more greyish than yellow.

http://www.cichlidae.com/article.php?id=109 scroll to the very bottom and you'll see another salvini with no red at all

http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/other/cichlasoma_salvini.html the top/left pic on this page looks very similar to the fish here in question.

and here is the page I was really looking for http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/other/cichlasoma_salvini_coatzacoalcos.html these are pics of adult salvini. the yellow color isn't as bright as in younger salvini and there is very little to no red in some of the pics.

just my $0.02 but I still say salvini or a salvini hybrid

I would have to agree after those pictures. Seems like their might be a sub-species of salvini that is one huge difference between specimens.

But then again somtimes you can not trust on line information

Beautiful Dovii

thanx for the info i now believe i have a very colorless salvini but either way he still fights with my O's

I could be wrong, but I think all it is is that male salvini as they grow lose the bright yellow coloration and attain the blander greyish/yellow color. I think females retain the bright yellows as they grow. again, I don't know for sure because I've never kept them to adulthood but I think I've seen pics of adult pairs where the male looked similar to those in the links I posted but the female still had bright yellows and reds. :)

I think your right I’m sure it’s a salvini of some kind. But it’s hard to tell with photos sometimes.
I’m glad you guys ruled out dovii.
