in the first pic can you tell whats wrong with those white spots by his bum?

looks like a fungus of some sort. is that silica in the sand?

its pool filter sand. with no mention of silica.

I'm not saying there is silica in it. A lot of people on here recommend it because it is clean but all I can get around here has silica in it. I actually had my local pool store call their distributor to find out and sure enough there was silica in it. I've heard the easiest way to tell is if there is silica in it then you will see glass like sand pebbles.

As far as the white stuff... hopefully someone with a little more knowledge will chime in!

i just googled silica and rays. hmmmm. hope theres none in there seeing how i just switched from natural pebbles to this for my earth eaters.

whats weird is that those white things werent there at the store. but my severum was a lil curious so i dont know if they are bites..but he has a hard time chewing an earthworm so i couldnt see him doin that much damage in an hour i was away from the tank.
