Synodontis robertsi
Poll, 1974

This is not a common Synodontis and if found in aquatic outlets and you are a fan of this genus, snap them up!. (if you can afford them!)
Because of their relatively small size and peaceful temperament they are a good candidate for a community tank.

This species can be confused with the
much larger S.caudalis (20cm) but the
point to look out for is the unusual large
eyes similar to S.alberti, the bigger ornate
pattern on the body and short barbels,
while caudalis has smaller eyes and also
has short barbels, but the latter can be
territorial when larger.
It has a deeply forked caudal fin similar to caudalis with the top lobe being slightly longer than the bottom lobe.

Synodontis robertsi is named in honour of Mr.Tyson R.Roberts of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard.
Family: Mochokidae
Synonym: None

Country of Origin:

Zaire, Africa, in the Kasai River and its tributaries.

That's a stunner.

I brought some very similar looking ones in on a congo shipment earlier this year. I believed them to be true s. ornatipinnis but only because i'm unaware of any hybrid breeding going on there. Will get some pictures of it tomorrow :)
