Id the cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks very similiar to the "Red Tiger Motaguense" cichlid exchange is selling which my LFS goes through. It's hard to tell but another LFS of mine has true Freddy juveniles and they are a bit more yellow and their bands are darker at that size. I'll try to get some pics up. In the meantime here are the simliar parachromis I was talking about.

That's not a motaguense though, the head shape is all wrong. If his fish isn't a freddy then it's more than likely a loisellei, but definitely not a motaguense.
Thanks bud, hope to hear from u soon, I also confused on this Freddy cichlid.
Can you try to post a better video or some clear pictures.

For me, young Parachromis species (4" or smaller), and especially young females are very hard to tell apart. If you had 3 species next to each other the distinctions may be easier to see.
Below a young motaguense

in a few months it's much easier, below the same motag

in the video below, you can see a freddy in its natural habitat, cenote Aktun Ha near Tulum Mexico, it first appears just after 1 minute, a younger one, around 2 minutes, and another at the end
