  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BC is right. Those are Tilapia. In about five months they will lose the stripes completely and sport a string of spots running down the lateral line from gill to tail. You might be able to look them up as Spotted Tilapia. Haven't seen them in years. Give em some time theyr'e pretty good looking Tilapia. Nice catch.

man all we catch here are bluegills largemouths and catfish. lucky lucky guy!

I agree with the tilapia mariae

not sure about the oreochromis though, the fish I have doesn't look like that at all, but we'll see once he settles down

Neither of them are SA/CA, IMO. The second one does have an Oreochromis shape. Tilapia are very common in Florida. A lot of the fish farms around here raise them commercially.

Actually where in Florida are you located I am going fishing the next time I am there.

I'm surprised to see that the tilapia mariae are actually eating cyanobacteria from the driftwood. Didn't know any fish fed on it.

Bigger one looks definitely like the blue tilapia. I have been catching all kinds of color variations in my backyard (orange and black, orange, white, and common blue. The spotted tilapia seem to be making a comeback but the Mayan is keeping them from getting as populated as before.

not really supposed to keep Tilapia species, according to FWC regs...that being said, I find T. mariae to be the most attractive of the invasive tilapia & oreochromis down here
