On the first one I thought syn at first too then I saw the black belly and that was what gave it away as mela for me. Do you think he's gonna be as orange as the rapps ones when he's older? Nice fish btw!

Thanks. This pic shows him in his "I'm the boss" colouration. I had thrown some pellets in the tank to get him to show this colouration. I'll post apic of them in their normal colours when I get home.

I'm fairly certain these are from the same breeders as Rapps stock.

The second is supposed to be the yellow labridens, Brenton.
I was just close, just picked the wrong fish. That first one looked just like Mo's Yellow Labriden.

Cool. I love the last pic of the melanurum. I have always liked them and often wondered why more people don't keep them. I look forward to seeing some sweet shots as it grows.

Thanks.

I guess not everyone wants a 12" + cichlid that doesn't have fangs? I dunno. These had disappeared from the local scene along with some other paratheraps and vieja types.

I have 6 of the labridens and 5 of the melanurum. It looks like at least 2 of the 5 melanurum are males. I'm hoping that at least one is female.

As to the labridens, they are still too small to sex ( I think). I am taking my time with those as Rusty told me very specifically to not overfeed them. The number one mistake made with the species apparently.

I'm really looking forward to both groups growing out! Should make for some great photo ops!

Lemme have one more guess at this. The first one is a Melanurum and the second one is a yellow labridens. Am I right? Am I right?
