I meant without knowing the origin or lineage, I would call it a BB despite it's shortcomings. I wouldn't pass it's offspring on as pure maculicauda though.
To me, and I own and breed both, yours look like they have something else mixed in. Id say both of them are a hybrid.
i know top one is Black belt x Synspilus because I see both in that fish. Oh it is very nice! And for sure it isnt all BB. It is crossed synspilum..
the big red one is peeling off dark pigment.. I see Synspilum crossed with a Midas or something that peels of dark pigments.. Both are pretty rare and bad azz
