well the tanks been up already for about 2 months...got my first algea growth...i spent a good couple hours researching it but didnt find anything that looked like it...i mean it kinda looks like black beard...but then again some of the pics i saw dont resemble it...i have 2 otto's in there...a silver aro and a spiny eel...im gonna leave the lights off for a couple days and double dose excel...any other suggestions...if it doesnt work then i guess ill have to go in and manually clean it...but my aro is still skittish and dont want to stress it out with the cleaning...thanks guys...last one is of my baby silver aro...also i just finished setting up my new 180 so next week i think im going to finally get my co2 kit...hope it helps becuase the plants look a lil rough...i dose excel everyday but they still arent looking to good...

pain in the arse hair algea.. i have some growing on my sword plant.. my otos seen to almost like eating it.. but my siamese algea eater goes to TOWN!!!! note i said siamese not chinese

yea i was looking at some siamese today but was told most of the time they wont touch it...i might have to grab 2 and try em out...im in the process of finishing my co2 kit...i wanted to use a reactor like this http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f20/diy-line-co2-reactor-93486.html
but how would i be able to use this with a sump??...see it more on canister filter setups...my 55 is going to be running a 20 gal wet dry starting tom when its all dried up...anyone have any experience...if not i might try out something with a powerhead...already got my 5lb tank and gauges regulater...just havent decided on diffusion becuase of the coming switch in filteration...any ideas guys??

since im running a wet dry this is what ive been thinking of doing...have seen similar designs but not with the bio balls...and not with the line all the way at the bottom...i think with the input all the way at the bottom and the bio balls the co2 should be mulched up pretty good...plus the impeller of the power head would also aid in that...anyone see any wrongs in this...would like to be able to keep the reactor outside the tank but ohh well...has anyone ever tried a reactor on the return of a wet/dry and plumbed the return low so that the co2 can be disbursed??...i was even thinking maybe some spray bars as the return...i dont know...lol..let me go to bed before i go crazy with ideas lol...

Two big problems with your reactor, one the flow of water is going the wrong direction, and two you will have large co2 bubbles, and they will destroy your impeller in that powerhead. A seperate problem you will face, is a w/d will negate most of your co2 injected.

I see it now, it's really out of focus. That is the beginnings of thread algae, not hair or beard algae. Check your iron, nitrate and phosphates.

hmm...ok...how is the flow of water going the wrong way though??...the power head picks up from the bottom with co2 running trough the bio balls and in to the powerhead and then blows it out...must reactor set ups ive seen with power heads that go for over a 100 bucks do the same thing...only difference is they keep the reactor outside of the tank and the powerhead inside and shoot the flow out trough the powerhead, into the reactor, and then out the other side with a line in the water...i mean i could also set it up like this if its going to be muh better...and do u think i should leave the emporor in there instead of running my wet/dry??...i mean a hob has alot of surface aggitation too but if i keep the level up its not too
bad...heres a example of what i mean with the reactor outside the tank
