ID this bass please.

Not a redeye. It looks like LMB. Look to see if the maxilla extends past the rear margin of the eye. If it does, then it's LMB. It has the potential to be spotted, but I don't see any rows of spots. Plus, if it is a farm pond, it is unlikely that someone stocked spotteds. If it dies, pull up the dorsal fin and see if the spiny dorsal is connected to the soft dorsal. Separated = LMB Connected = spotted.

:confused::confused: I thought spotted bass were a variant of LMB but in the same family?

i have had both red eye and LMB and now that i look at it again your right it is a LMB i guess i need to stop trying to ID when im half asleep

Spotted bass (Micropterus punctulatus) are their own species - distinct from LMB.

Now there are some issues between the 'lumpers' and 'splitters' about the Kentucky spotted bass (Micropterus punctulatus punctulatus), and the Alabama spotted bass (M. p. henshalli).
