  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in my opinion it looks like a vieja bifasciatum or red head monk cichlid. i just got me one of these earlier....and my gt is doing what it does best....:irked:

I don't see how you guys are getting synspilum with it having washed out colors. Can you give me an explanation of how you can tell?

Synspilum. The black bar doesn't travel the full length of the fish so that rules out most other Paratheraps (bifa, zonatus, gutts, etc. all have a bar that run until the gill plate).

Thank you. :D

definitely Vieja/Paratheraps.
Either synspilus or hybrid (there are lots of hybrids).

This is a nice pic of ADULTS...
although there is a lot of regional variation in most species

Interesting photo, but it contains fish from several families (Chuco, Paratheraps, and exCichlasoma), not just Vieja (argentea, heterospila, maculicauda, regani, and ufermanni (missing from the poster), so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks guys... this helped out a lot i do remember now that it was a vieja of some sort. Is this guy really mean by nature b/c he really did eat the eyes out of my pleco. When i came home he was head 1st in the socket.... What type of pleco will be able to handle themselves with this guy,a red devil, marble catfish, venustus, and jack dempsy. tank is 100 gallons.. i was thinking a leopard cactus. Any thoughts...
