Been said, but I'll say it all again. Mono Argentae. Can start in fresh, but must have brackish as it ages, as with the puffer. However, as also said, the africans will probably shorten that time in fresh as they start to beat on them, especially the auratus.

yeah i know i know guy now i ONLY got the monos and school of green spotted puffers in a 29GAL. So no more african cichlid.

how you know the water isint brakish. I have seen people keep africans in brackish water. MY father used to keep them in brackish when i was younger as well.

those africans are from the lakes how can they actually live happy in brackish
this is the first time i am hearing this
any particular reason they were kept in brack water

It would require marine salt to turn the environment into brackish water. Africans do not need that.

This is a common misconception i come across. People think that the hard water that africans come from is, or is similar to brackish. Maybe its based on cichlid salts used for buffering purpose, or even regular salt for medicating people make false assumptions. They are a freshwater fish...

Also...the crushed coral substrate commonly used for buffering purposes may make people think they are brackish/salt.

Regardless, i'm not sure why anyone would keep african in brackish. Its not necessary nor beneficial.

actually they can live in freshwater fine but do better in brackish and do better in hard africasn water
ive caught some netting in lakes and also its like saying silver scats have to have backish when ive raised 1 in freshwater fine and i have another 3 in fresh as well

The difference is in the salts found in the different waters. Brackish waters are formed with sodium chloride salt while rift lake waters are formed with calcium chloride salts.
