Hmm... could be. Channels seem too bulky though from my google image search. This fish was quite slender and long.

Well with the seller's maintenance, I don't see why that would be a surprise.
The Sciades seemanni aka Columbian Shark is a brackish and salwater catfish and won't survive in freshwater for life.
Assuming that the catfish is pretty large in size, it would have died from skin diseases by that age.
 
It's pretty big. At least 14". It sulked at the bottom the entire time and didn't move unless someone got too close. Then it freaked out and smashed into everything.:screwy:

Sounds stressed. Needs places to hide, bigger tank, dimmer lights.
